The Paediatric GCS

The paediatric Glasgow Coma Scale is a modified scale that takes into account some of the limitations associated with performing the original GCS on children.

Eyes

4: Spontaneous eye opening 3: Eyes open to voice 2: Eyes open to painful stimulus 1: No eye opening

Voice

5: Coos / babbles 4: Irritable crying 3: Crying to pain 2: Moaning to pain 1: No speech

Motor

6: Normal spontaneous movement 5: Withdraws to touch 4: Withdraws from painful stimulus 3: Abnormal flexion / decorticate response to painful stimulus 2: Extension / decerebrate response to painful stimulus 1: No movement
