Ascitic Fluid Appearance



    • Interpretation

    • Straw-coloured - normal, cirrhosis, cardiac ascites
    • Blood-stained - traumatic collection, malignancy, pancreatitis, perforated ulcer, TB
    • Turbid - bacterial peritonitis, pancreatitis, perforation
    • Milky (chylous) - cirrhosis, parasitic infection, TB, malignancy
