Overview

Urine does not normally contain glucose - it is filtered by the glomerulus but almost completely reabsorbed.
Glucose may be present in urine in hyperglycaemia where the amount of serum glucose exceeds the kidney's ability to absorb it.
This is classically a feature of diabetes.
