Overview
The Weber classification is used to class lateral malleolar fractures, based on the location of the fibular fracture - below, at the level of or above the distal tibiofibular joint. The Weber classification indicates the stability of the fracture, and is used to guide treatment.
Classification
- ATransverse fracture below the level of the tibial plafondMost stable - ligaments intact
- BSpiral fracture at the level of the distal tibiofibular jointLigaments may be disrupted
- CFracture above the level of the distal tibiofibular jointLeast stable - complete disruption of syndesmosis and tearing of anterior & posterior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane
