Xanthochromia

 
 

Overview

  • Yellowish colour of cerebrospinal fluid that can be spectrometrically measured, indicative of bilirubin formation due to haem metabolism.
    • Significance

    • Subarachnoid haemorrhage will be xanthochromic (yellow) >12 hours after onset.
