Red Blood Cells



      • Normal Range

      • <10 x 10⁶

Presence of RBC in CSF

    • Causes of Red Cells in CSF

    • Traumatic collection
    • Subarachnoid haemorrhage
  • Classically, if the red cell count dropped between consecutive tubes then the collection was likely to be traumatic, while subarachnoid haemorrhage was more likely if the RBC was constant across tubes. There is very little evidence to back up this claim, however.
