Causes of Elevated CSF Protein
- Meningitis - bacterial, viral, fungal, tuberculosis
- Subarachnoid haemorrhage
- Guillain-Barre syndrome
- Multiple sclerosis
- Intracranial tumour
Interpretation
- 50-100 mg/dL is suggestive of viral meningitis
- >100 mg/dL is suggestive of bacterial meningitis
