Complement Components
September 12th, 2020
Overview
The complement pathway plays an important role in inflammatory processes, and involves many different measureable components including C1q, C3, C4 and factor B.
Elevated Complement Components
The complement pathway is part of the acute phase reaction, and therefore elevated complement levels are indicative of an inflammatory process.
Depressed Complement Components
Causes of Depressed Complement Components
- Systemic lupus erythematosusC1q, C3 and C4 deficiency
- Antiphospholipid syndromeC1q, C3 and C4 deficiency
- CryoglobulinaemiaPrimarily C4 deficiency
- Poststreptococcal glomerulonephritisPrimarily C3 deficiency
- Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritisPrimarily C3 deficiency
- Recurrent infectionGeneralised deficiency
- Hereditary / acquired angioedemaC1-esterase inhibitor deficiency
- Complement factor deficiencyVariable deficiency
