Teardrop cells are classically suggestive of myelofibrosis, though may also occur with severe red cell dysplasia.
  • Causes of Teardrop Cells

  • Myelofibrosis (primary or secondary)
  • Megaloblastic anaemia - B12 / folate deficiency, drug-induced
  • Myelodysplastic syndrome
  • Thalassaemia major
