Overview

A classification system for fractures of the midface.
  • Classification

  • Type 1 - transmaxillary fracture with separation of the teeth from the upper face. Involves the maxillary sinus but not the orbit.
  • Type 2 - pyramidal fracture with the teeth at the base. Involves the maxillary sinus and the inferior orbital rim.
  • Type 3 - large unstable facial fracture / craniofacial disassociation. Involves the zygomatic arch.
