Hyperuricaemia

Overview
It is important to note that while hyperuricaemia predisposes to gout and nephrolithiasis, its presence does not indicate the presence of these conditions.
Causes of Hyperuricaemia
Increased Production
- Diet - purines (liver, kidney, anchovies, mussels, bacon, veal, venison), ethanol, fructose
- Haematologic - leukaemia, lymphoma, polycythaemia
- Drugs - cytotoxic drugs, exogenous B12
- Obesity
- Psoriasis
- Hypertriglyceridaemia
Reduced Excretion
- Drugs - cytotoxics, diuretics, pyrazinamide, ethambutol, aspirin
- Renal - hypertension, polycystic kidneys, CKD
- Metabolic - dehydration, lactic acidosis, ketosis, hypothyroidism, hyperparathyroidism
- Obesity
- Sarcoidosis
- Pregnancy
