Elevated Antistreptolysin Titre



  • The antistreptolysin (ASO titre) measures the presence and amount of antibody directed against streptolysin O, a streptococcal exotoxin.
      • Normal Range

      • <200 U/mL
  • Elevation of the ASO titre is indicative of recent group A streptococcal infection, which may suggest the presence of poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis or acute rheumatic fever in patients with concerning clinical features.
    • Causes of Elevated Antistreptolysin Titre

    • Group A streptococcal infection - pharyngitis, tonsillitis, scarlet fever, impetigo, cellulitis, necrotising fasciitis, septic arthritis, osteomyelitis
    • Poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis
    • Acute rheumatic fever
