Basophilia

Overview
Basophilia is the presence of increased numbers of circulating basophils.
Marked basophilia is classically a sign of myeloproliferative neoplasms such as CML.
Causes of Basophilia
- Myeloproliferative neoplasms - chronic myeloid leukaemia, polycythaemia vera, myelofibrosis
- Allergies - asthma, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis
- Inflammation - autoimmune disease, graft vs host disease
- Lymphoma
