Pronator Drift

Overview

Pronator drift is a simple screening tool for motor pathology, and can be used to identify potential cerebellar or proprioceptive dysfunction depending on the patient's response.
  • How to Elicit

  • Ask the patient to extend their arms out in front of them with palms facing up and close their eyes for thirty seconds
  • Interpretation

  • No movement - normal
  • Down and pronation - muscular weakness
  • Up and pronation - cerebellar disease
  • All directions - loss of proprioception
