Overview
Look For
- Erythema and swelling of the skin around the fingernails, which may be associated with pus from the nail fold.
Significance
- Infection, usually due to Staphylococcus, Streptoccocus or sometimes Herpes simplex.
Predisposing Factors
- Ingrown nail
- Artificial nails
- Manicuring
- Habitual nail biting
