Lift Off Test

Overview

The lift off test is used to assess for subscapularis rupture or dysfunction,  which may be isolated or related to anterior dislocation.
  • How to Perform

  • The hand is placed against the mid-lumbar spine with the palm facing outward. Ask the patient to push their hand away from their back (internally rotate + extend) against resistance.
  • Abnormal If

  • Inability to perform internal rotation and extension against resistance.
