Overview
Clinical Features
- Pain, swelling, erythema of the upper arm
- Symptoms / signs of pulmonary embolism
Prevention
- Use the smallest possible PICC line
- Minimise PICC line duration where possible
Management
- Watch for signs and symptoms for early diagnosis
- Ultrasound to confirm thrombosis
- Remove the PICC
- Look for signs and symptoms of pulmonary embolism
- Commence anticoagulation as apppropriate
