Overview
Clinical Features
- Red / purple discolouration
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- IVC visibly out of the vein
Significance
- Due to blood leaking from the vein into surrounding tissue.
Prevention
- Insert the cannula properly
- Apply pressure to the site on removal of the cannula
Management
- Apply a pressure bandage to the site.
