Overview
Clinical Features
- Pain, swelling, erythema of the upper arm (subclavian line) or leg (femoral line)
- Symptoms / signs of pulmonary embolism
Prevention
- Use the smallest possible CVC
- Minimise CVC duration where possible
Management
- Watch for signs and symptoms for early diagnosis
- Ultrasound to confirm thrombosis
- Remove the CVC
- Look for signs and symptoms of pulmonary embolism
- Commence anticoagulation as apppropriate
