Dupuytren's Contracture
October 29th, 2020
Overview
A dupuytren's contracture is a fixed flexion deformity of one or more fingers, associated with a nodule or cord over the palm proximal to the deformity.
Significance
- Dupuytren's contractures occur due to thickening of the palmar and digital fascia, resulting in fibrous band formation and flexion contractures of the MCP and PIP joints.
Associations
- Hereditary Dupuytren's
- Diabetes
- Alcohol excess
- Smoking
- Epilepsy
- Trauma
- Manual labour
Liver disease in the absence of alcohol abuse is not a risk factor for Dupuytren's contracture, rather the presence may be suggestive of alcoholic liver disease.
