  • Mechanism of Action

  • Directly agonises alpha and beta adrenoceptors, resulting in stimulation of sympathetic activity.
  • Pharmacology

  • Greater affinity for alpha than beta adrenoceptors, resulting in greater vasoconstriction than adrenaline.

Clinical Use

  • Indications

  • Profound hypotension, especially in the case of distributive shock.
  • Adverse Effects
  • Anxiety / restlessness / tremor
  • Tachycardia
  • Dyspnoea
  • Dizziness
  • Cold peripheries
  • Nausea / vomiting
  • Ischaemic injury
