Mechanism of Action
- Directly agonises alpha and beta adrenoceptors, resulting in stimulation of sympathetic activity.
Pharmacology
- Greater affinity for alpha than beta adrenoceptors, resulting in greater vasoconstriction than adrenaline.
Clinical Use
Indications
- Profound hypotension, especially in the case of distributive shock.
- Adverse Effects
- Anxiety / restlessness / tremor
- Tachycardia
- Dyspnoea
- Dizziness
- Cold peripheries
- Nausea / vomiting
- Ischaemic injury
