Overview

    • Mechanism of Action

    • A hormone naturally produced by pancreatic alpha cells that is responsible for regulation of glucose  and lipid metabolism.
    • Effects

    • Increased hepatic glycogenolysis
    • Increased hepatic gluconeogenesis (high doses)
    • Lipolysis (high doses)

Clinical Use

    • Indication

    • Severe hypoglycaemia due to administration of insulin or oral hypoglycaemics.
    • Contraindications

    • Phaeochromocytoma
    • Insulinoma
    • Glucagonoma
    • Adverse Reactions

    • Nausea / vomiting.
